Pope Francis visits refugees on the Greek island Lesbos

Pope Francis visits the Greek island of Lesbos on Saturday, 16 April 2016. Of the one million plus migrants and asylum seekers who made the hazardous journey to Greece last year, nearly half arrived in Lesbos. Pope Francis, alongside his friend the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, will visit the Moria Refugee Camp – a place that has received as many as 2,000 refugees a day. Pope Francis will greet individually 250 asylum seekers.

Our studio guest, the bishops’ consultant on the Middle East North Africa, Dr Harry Hagopian, discusses the visit in context with its humanitarian, ecumenical and political implications.
